No one moves to the U.S. with just dreams in their suitcase—you’ll need your vaccines too.
In case you are willing to apply for a U.S. immigrant visa, you cannot miss the one non-negotiable step in the procedure: the U.S. immigrant visa vaccination requirements. They are components of U.S. immigration regulations and exist to keep both the American public and you safe from diseases that can be prevented. The notion of even more documents and medical steps may seem quite discouraging, but this guide will make it just as simple as reading your favorite blog.
So, What Exactly Is Changing?
Here is a brief summary from the new rule book:- In-person interviews are starting back for the majority of visa categories
- Applies globally—no matter your country
- Categories impacted by the return of interviews: E-1, E-2, F-1, H-1B, J-1, L1, O-1, etc.
- Applicants renewing their visa will be required to go for an in-person interview
Who Still Gets a Pass?
Not everyone is back in the interview chair. The U.S. Visa Interview Waiver Policy still applies—but only in limited cases. You might skip the interview if you’re renewing a B1/B2 visa or Border Crossing Card, and all of the following are true:- You apply within 12 months of your previous visa’s expiration
- Your prior visa was full validity, issued when you were 18+
- You apply from your home country
- You’ve had no visa refusals or potential red flags
Diplomatic & Official Visas: A Different Ball Game
Certain visa classes still enjoy waivers, including:- A-1, A-2, C-3
- G-1 through G-4
- NATO-1 through NATO-6
- TECRO E-1
Tips to Stay Ahead
To ensure your experience is as smooth as possible, consider the following:- Apply early – Uniformed wait times should continue to increase
- Don’t consulate-hop – consider applying in your country
- Check your local U.S. consulate website for specific instructions
- Stay informed – policies do change quickly
Final Thoughts: Know Before You Go
What does this return to the U.S. Consular Interview Requirements mean for travelers? This simply means that travelers will need to be prepared; everyone is on longer timelines and can expect face-to-face scrutiny. The post-COVID-19 flexibilities are officially gone. The policies of 2023 which allowed most renewals without interviews, have officially ended. Need help? Abhinav Immigration Services can provide assistance!
