Good news for Canadian families! Canada is once again opening its doors to reuniting more families. From July 28, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will begin sending invitations to 17,860 potential sponsors for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP).
The invitations will be sent to just those who filled out an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020, so if you are one of them and have not heard anything, be sure to check your inbox (junk or spam folders too). IRCC clearly indicated that no new sponsor forms will be accepted this year.
The Parents and Grandparents Program allows Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and registered Indians to sponsor their parents or grandparents for permanent residency status in Canada.
Here is how it works:
If you are not selected under the PGP, you can still reunite with family through the Super Visa – a flexible, long-term visitor visa for parents and grandparents.
Super Visa Takeaways:
| Household Size | Minimum Income (CAD) | Approx. in INR |
|---|---|---|
| 1 person | $29,380 | ₹17.92 lakh |
| 2 persons | $36,576 | ₹22.31 lakh |
| 3 persons | $44,966 | ₹27.43 lakh |
| 4 persons | $54,594 | ₹33.30 lakh |
| 5 persons | $61,920 | ₹37.77 lakh |
| 6 persons | $69,834 | ₹42.60 lakh |
| 7 persons | $77,750 | ₹47.43 lakh |
| Each additional | +$7,916 | +₹4.83 lakh |
This includes everyone in the household, including dependents and previously sponsored individuals under financial obligation.
Family reunification remains a top priority for Canada, making up about 22% of all permanent resident admissions. While overall immigration levels are expected to slow this year, this move brings hope and happiness to thousands of families waiting to bring their loved ones home.
